The School of Construction in the College of Engineering and Computing at Florida International University, Miami, Florida, invites applications for a tenure-track, open-rank, faculty position, with an anticipated start date in August 2017. The successful candidate must have the ability and qualifications to develop and sustain an active research program with external funding. The School seeks to augment its expertise by inviting applicants who add to the existing research and teaching expertise of our faculty in sustainable and resilient infrastructure systems, wind and storm surge hazard mitigation, or automation technologies in construction including ICT (Information and Communication Technology). Applicants with research expertise in extreme event management and smart cities are especially encouraged to apply.
A successful candidate is expected to develop interactions with faculty across the School, College, and Campus. Opportunities exist to participate in related campus-wide communities, such as the Sea-Level Rise Solutions Center, Sustainable Built Environment Initiative, Extreme Event Institute, International Hurricane Research Center and its state-of-the-art NSF/NHERI Wall of Wind experimental facility, and Applied Research Center. A successful candidate must develop and maintain an internationally recognized research program, contribute fully to teaching of undergraduate and graduate courses, and provide service to the profession and University. Success/interest in working with a diverse population of students and experience with a variety of teaching methods or curricular perspectives is desirable. For senior level positions, a higher level of research accomplishment and scholarly activities are expected.
Applicants must have an earned doctorate in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, and/or in a closely related field. Professional experience in the construction industry is desirable.
Available facilities include the Wall of Wind and Titan America Structures and Construction Research Laboratory. School of Construction houses Built Environment Informatics Laboratory (Moss and Associates BEIL), Construction Process Laboratory and the MEP (mechanical, electrical and plumbing) Studio. The school offers an accredited baccalaureate program with over 350 students and a Master’s program including a fully online Master’s program with over 120 students. In addition, the school faculty can supervise doctoral students in civil engineering on dissertation research in construction engineering and management.
